Will my child take their exam?

Our staff have to consider multiple factors in or to enter a child for their exam.

  • Class attendance and punctuality. If children are missing from class, they are missing the syllabus that has been taught that day, which they will be examined on. This makes it very hard for us to enter students for their exam if they have missed a number of lessons. This includes attendance to coaching sessions leading up to the examination so the students are fully prepared and have practised with their specific group thoroughly before the exam. 100% commitment is required which allows the children to attain the outstanding results of the past years.

  • Effort, focus and discipline shown in class.

  • There are minimum age requirements for some grades set by the ISTD. If your child is in a grade for older children they cannot be entered for their exam.

What to expect on the day?

Prior to the examination you will have confirmation of your exam timetable and examiner.

The students are entered in groups with exercises learnt and worked on in class, but a huge part of the examination is marked on their spatial awareness.

Examination will tkae place at The Studios, 661 Rayleigh Road or the new RAD Headquarters is 188 York Road, London, SW11 3JZ. (For SatNav please use the Travelodge next door, SW11 3QR.)

The main points to note for the RAD HQ are:

  • Parents are not allowed to wait at HQ, they must drop off their child and return to collect them

  • There is no parking available at all

  • Teachers must arrive prior to the candidates and stay with them (unless the Exam Attendant is with them). If you are entering Class Awards you should bring a second teacher with you if you have more than one set of candidates that day.

  • Only one exam set should arrive together – please do not bring all children at the same time, we need to limit the amount of people in the building at any one time. As the RAD has recently moved, there will be maintenance workers on site, so we must limit the amount of people on site where we can. Arrival time for each set is 30 minutes before the start of their exam, allowing time for entry checks and warm-up studio time.

  • Candidates should arrive ready and dressed – access to changing rooms is limited, and should be kept to a minimum. Hair should be done prior to arrival and not in the changing/warm-up area. Remember we do not add/deduct marks for hairstyle, so as long as the hair is back off the face securely this will be fine.
